"That '90s Show," the sequel series to Fox's popular sitcom "That '70s Show," will premiere on Netflix on January 19, the streamer announced Tuesday.
The new series follows Leia Foreman (Callie Haverda), who heads to Point Place, Wisconsin, to spend the summer with her grandparents Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp). Leia seems to have inherited her father's geeky charm, but that never stopped him, and it certainly doesn't stop him from finding new friends as she settles into her father's old haunts.

The original show "That '70s Show," which ran from 1998 to 2006, revolved around a group of six teenagers living in Point Place, Wisconsin, in the late 1970s. The sequel series centers on Leia (Callie Haverda), the daughter of the series' original leads Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), who decides to spend the summer of 1995 in Point Place with her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp). from the original series. While she's in the small town, she meets new friends and engages in many of the same antics that her parents did to her two decades ago.
In a trailer released by Netflix alongside the date announcement, various locations from the original series are revisited and recreated, including Eric's old basement and the town's water tower. The sneak peek is reminiscent of many of the gags from the original show, including Red's catchphrase "I'll put my foot up your ass" and the "Circle," frequent scenes in which the characters converse while smoking pot.
In addition to Haverda, new teen characters appearing on "That '90s Show" are played by Ashley Aufderheide, Maxwell Donovan, Mace Coronel, Reyn Doi and Sam Morelos. The main cast of the series also includes Andrea Anders as Red and Sherri, Kitty's next-door neighbor. Smith and Rupp are the only original series cast members to serve as regulars on the show, but Grace, Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama will all guest-star on the show's first season. The only main cast member from the original series (understandably) absent is Danny Masterson, who played Hyde in the original series, and is currently on trial on three counts of sexual assault.
The original creators of "That '70s Show," Bonnie and Terry Turner, developed the new series with their daughter Lindsey Turner and Gregg Mettler, who serves as showrunner. All four are executive producers with Smith, Rupp, Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner, Chrissy Pietrosh, Jessica Goldstein and Gail Mancuso. Mancuso is directing the first eight episodes of the season, while original cast member Prepon will direct the final two.
The first season of “That ’90s Show” consists of 10 22-minute episodes.
