Disney finally releases the trailer for Zootopia+ just two days before its official premiere on Disney+. Since the release of Tangled, Disney has embarked on a new era of animated feature films that have pushed boundaries both visually and storytellingly. Among the films to come out of this is Zootopia, which sets its story in the titular metropolis of anthropomorphic animals. The film focuses on a rabbit police officer named Judy Hopps and a fox con man named Nick Wilde as they team up to solve the mystery of wild animal attacks that suddenly lose control and turn feral.
Long ago on Disney Investor Day 2020, a new series of short films based on the blockbuster movie, "Zootopia" or "Zootropolis" if you're in Europe, and now, almost two years later, the six shorts will arrive on Disney +.
Each short is approximately 7 minutes long and all six shorts take place during the events of the original film. Some of the shorts have a slightly different television format, such as one based on "Real Housewives" and one in the "America's Got Talent" style.
Stars: Maurice LaMarche, Kristen Bell, Idris Elba
A short tells the story of what happens when Judy Hopps leaves Bunnyburrow on a train to Zootropolis, but we didn't realize one of her younger sisters also jumped aboard the train, prompting Judy's parents to run. to rescue the bunny from disaster. This is a fun short, but there are some moments between the parents, where you think, it's lucky that any of their children survived, but it's one of my favorite episodes of the bunch.
During Disney's major investor meeting in December 2020, the company made several announcements of movies and TV shows coming to Disney+. Among them was the revelation that Walt Disney Animation Studios was developing short-form TV shows based on some of its biggest hits. The first to be released was Baymax! in June 2022 and would soon be followed by a Zootopia series simply titled Zootopia+. While Baymax! received a timely trailer and heavy promotion, Disney hasn't said much about Zootopia+ ahead of its release next Wednesday, November 9.
With Zootopia+ launching in just a couple of days, Walt Disney Animation Studios has finally dropped a trailer for all to see. The Zootopia+ trailer gives viewers a glimpse of what's to come by showing that the series will follow many of the supporting characters from the beloved film. Zootopia+ will include six episodes featuring Fru Fru and her mouse girls filmed for a reality show, Duke Weaselton starring in a musical, Judy's parents trying to reunite with one of their sons, Mr. Big's backstory from his youth, the obsession from Clawhauser with the new reality competition show and Flash on a pretty slow date.
Zootopia has garnered a huge following for its world-building, attention to detail, and memorable characters. It also unsurprisingly struck a chord with the furry community, with Disney even reaching out to them to help promote the film. Still, given the film's good reception and huge potential to further explore its unique world, a Zootopia sequel doesn't seem like a priority for Disney. However, the release of Zootopia+ may be an attempt to gauge interest in such a project.
Directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore have expressed interest in making Zootopia 2 and claim to have ideas for what a sequel could be. Previously, Tom Lister Jr., who voiced Finnick, revealed that Disney was developing two sequels to Zootopia, but nothing came of it. However, it's possible that Zootopia+ is what came out of those earlier sequel discussions. The series seems to show more of the world of Zootopia, taking advantage of all the potential introduced with the film. And if Zootopia+ proves to be a hit for Disney+, then maybe it could follow up with a full-length Zootopia sequel that catches up with main characters Judy and Nick.
