Apple TV+ is launching content aimed at a younger audience through the animated series Interrupting Chicken. The program aims to inspire children to read and find joy in creative writing. In order to tease the upcoming cute and heartwarming adventure, the streamer shared with Collider an exclusive clip that perfectly sums up how the episodes will unfold. The series features the voice work of Emmy Award winner Sterling K. Brown, and the series premieres this Friday.
The four new series are the preschool animated show Sago Mini Friends, based on characters from the Sago Mini World app; Slumberkins, a mix of animation and puppetry from the Jim Henson Company; Interrupting Chicken, based on the award-winning children's book by David Ezra Stein; and Circuit Breakers, a children's science fiction show.
Creator: Ron Holsey
Stars: Juliet Donenfeld, Mary Faber, Jakari Fraser
Labeled a "preschool series," Interrupting Chicken follows Piper, a young bird so passionate about stories that she can't help but interrupt her parents during story time when her imagination starts to run wild. The clip shows the fact that Piper also lets her imagination take physical form using everything she can in the real world to make what she sees in her mind come alive.
The additions to Apple TV+'s slate for kids and families are in stark contrast to some other streaming services: HBO Max pulled a number of kids' shows from its service and slowed development in that area, and Netflix also removed several animated series and shed a few. 70 people in his animation group.
This involves building a book fort complete with towers and a drawbridge, an exercise that is encouraged by her father (Brown). Furthermore, the clip shows that Piper's younger brother also has the knack for concocting her own adventurous world, but of course, that sometimes ends up fueling sibling rivalry, albeit of the best kind.
Interrupting Chicken is developed by Ron Holsey, who previously wrote for recent versions of Sesame Street and Curious George. Holsey adapts the story from the 2011 Caldecott Honor Award-winning children's book series written by author and illustrator David Ezra Stein. The series is part of an Apple TV+ initiative to help children fall in love with storybooks.
In addition to Brown, the voice cast for Interrupting Chicken also includes Juliet Donenfeld (Pete the Cat) as Piper, Mary Farber (Parks and Recreation) as Mom, Maximus Riegel (Klaus) as Benjamin, Luke Lowe (Big City Greens) as Duckston, and Jakari Fraser (Spidey and His Amazing Friends) as Theodore.
Apple TV+ premieres Interrupting Chicken on November 18.
