Peacock has released the first trailer for "Queer as Folk," the second American reboot of the soon-to-air British original series, pulling back the curtain on its reimagining of the Russell T. Davies-created TV series.
The new series moves from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to New Orleans, Louisiana, and explores the lives of a diverse community of LGBTQ+ people whose lives are upended in the aftermath of tragedy. The trailer takes a look into the world of the city's queer clubbing and the private lives of characters played by series stars Devin Way, Fin Argus, JesseJames Keitel, CG, Johnny Sibilly and Ryan O'Connell. Peacock emphasizes the British series in its promotional material, prospective viewers shouldn't expect the series to resemble the Showtime American reboot.
"Queer as Folk" has been reimagined for a second reboot. The groundbreaking British series was a big hit with fans when it first aired in 1999. So much so that Showtime adapted the series in the US a year later. Now more than 20 years have passed and the show's creator and executive producer, Stephen Dunn, has chosen to recast the hit with a diverse cast that aims to be more inclusive and reflective of today's culture.
With the release of Queer as Folk fast approaching, viewers can anticipate a very diverse cast with many personal struggles that go beyond that element of their identity. The show seems to want to highlight the idea that LGBT+ people not only go through regular problems like everyone else, but also have to deal with the added layer of receiving judgment in most social circles. Navigating the world while living an incredibly different lifestyle and identity can present significant challenges, and Queer as Folk seems to be betting on covering these topics with care and respect. Two significant aspects that the general media must see in today's content.
