The Name of the Rose TV-Show Review 2019 Cast Crew

Stars: Fabrizio Bentivoglio, James Cosmo, Michael Emerson

John Turturro had not read Umberto Eco's thriller "The Name of the Rose" nor had he seen the 1986 movie when he approached him in the spring of last year about a new television adaptation. After reading the novel, one of the most sold of all time, Turturro agreed to sign, if the producers agreed to honor the original, he says.

"I read the book and I loved it. I started writing to [director] Giacomo [Battiato] to say: 'Why is not there more Eco, this is eight hours, do not you have to reduce it? "Says Turturro." I said, "If you put more than Eco, then I'm interested."

Turturro takes on the role played by Sean Connery in the film, that of William Baskerville, the Franciscan monk who investigates a series of mysterious murders in a 14th century Italian monastery. Rupert Everett plays the ruthless inquisitor Bernard Gui, and Michael Emerson is the abbot among international actors.

Rising star Damian Hardung plays Baskerville rookie Adso. Turturro says he gave advice to his young co-star and looked at him for help. "At first I was a bit intimidated, since I'm not really a man of science," he says. "Damian Hardung comes from a family of doctors, he's a bright young man and he really has a very scientific mind, I was able to help him in many acting problems, and he was able to help delineate where we were missing something, which was not specific enough So we found that we could help each other. "

The $ 26 million series will be presented next year at the Rai pubcaster in Italy and on the SundanceTV cable network and its broadcast service, Sundance Now, in the US. UU

Just as the novel has traveled the world since its publication in 1980, the series will be an international property. It has been picked up by the BBC in the USA. UU., OCS in France, Sky in Germany, SBS in Australia and NRK in Norway, among others. The German Tele München is managing sales.

Turturro, who has numerous film credits and a television hit with HBO's "The Night Of," found a modern resonance in the piece of the period. "I thought it was a very relevant book, maybe more at this particular time than even when it came out," he says. "You see all the things that are exploding everywhere, whether they are the strong men that are fashionable, ... all the scandals in the church ... [and] the oppression of women by men, everything is in the book".

He adds: "I could always see when Eco's words were and when they were not, so we went back to Eco's words whenever we could." The author died in 2016, but his son visited the filming, which took place in historic Rome. Cinecitta Studios, and in places that include Abruzzo, Perugia and Umbria.

The Old Man Tv Series Review Trailer Cast Crew

Dan Chase, the lead in FX's new drama The Old Man, is on the run. They're chasing him, do you see what they did there? — by various US government agencies, at least one deadly contractor, and international adversaries. He is an intelligent man, but his main antagonist is time: a past that catches up with him and a future that becomes more finite. It's a role made for Jeff Bridges, one of those actors who was born to and into Hollywood stardom and has gracefully grown from golden boy to septuagenarian savant on movie screens across the country. As a thriller, The Old Man doesn't always deliver. His internal logic is spotty and his backstory shallow. As a showcase for Bridges and John Lithgow, the rare actor almost able to match his indelible co-star role in another indelible role, The Old Man is far more satisfying, though audiences will yearn for a more direct interplay between the two perfect notes. drives and less of the genre filler that stretches three of the four e...
