The Bay TV-Show Review 2019 Cast Crew
Stars: Jonas Armstrong, Tracie Bennett, Morven Christie
Having watched this drama being filmed in and around Morecambe, last Summer, I was looking forward to seeing how the first episode would look. I wasn't disappointed...the dramatic backdrop of the bay and the brooding soundtrack helped to draw you in. As for the accents...yep...they're northern...but what would you expect to hear.
Even for the experienced spectators of crime dramas, The Bay brings something new to the genre.
ITV's Drama Director, Polly Hill, said: "It's always a challenge to find a new version of the crime, but Daragh Carville has written a very real crime story about family and community, which is distinctive, compelling and beautifully designed. "
This is what you need to know about the series, from the cast and plot to a broadcast date.
The Bay: What is it about?
The Bay is located in the northern coastal city of Morecambe and the plot centers on DS Lisa Armstrong, a police police liaison officer charged with supporting families and at the same time investigating them.
The writer of the Daragh Carville series has talked about why this makes the series unique.
"I was fascinated by the role of the Family Liaison Officer (FLO), I wanted to write something that encompassed genres as both a criminal drama and a family drama, I researched the role of FLO and was fascinated by the people who do this work and volunteer to go to the homes of families at the worst time of their lives.
"The other important element was Morecambe, I live in the Morecambe Bay area and a television program has never been created in that area," he said.
When Lisa is assigned to an investigation of missing persons, she seems like any other at the beginning: tragic, but very familiar.
She is able to never get emotionally involved, her job is to support families at the worst moment of their lives and at the same time be the eyes and ears of the police investigation.
Lisa realizes that this time, she has a personal connection to the case and could compromise her and the investigation. While struggling to obtain justice for the grieving family, Lisa discovers that it could come at a cost.
Talking about what led her to Lisa's role, Morven Christie said:
"She was introduced to a main character because she is making some dramatic mistakes, she has to unravel things to cover up something she has done, apart from that, she is very good at her job, her natural warmth with people, her love for family, I just discovered her really believable. "
"It's very real in terms of how you portray people, so in different stages you like people and then not, they all do things and say things that make you say 'what's wrong?', But that's what it does people". . Morven also talked about why the working class environment of the program was a reason for her to get involved in the project.
"One of the things that I loved when I read the script was that it's not about middle-class people, but about a different community that we do not see on TV all the time." [Lisa], as a character, has grown up in the community , that means a lot to her and people mean a lot to her, "said Morven.
The program also focuses on the family life of Lisa, who is the mother of two teenagers but can not spend much time with them because she is working hard.
Daniel Ryan, who plays the demon Tony Manning told the press, including Goodhousekeeping.com/uk:
"It's much more than a police program, it really deals with families with children and the dangers of what they can be doing when you're not there." If you're someone who's working hard at your job, possibly harder than you are at being a mother, [the program explores] the potentials of when you neglect your child and what happens in their rooms.
